She has held licensure in the state of Maryland since 2007.

I've never been to counseling. What should I expect?
We're glad you asked. Whether you are new to counseling or new to working with our therapists, we require FREE 15-minute phone consultations for all new patients. During the consultation, we will discuss your concerns and decide together how to help you achieve your goals.
In therapy, we will discuss what events brought you to this place, and how do we take purposeful steps to move forward, recognizing what are your strengths and barriers to understand how to best move forward.
How much does counseling cost and will my insurance pay for it?
Payment is due on the date of service and may be paid by:
- Credit card
- HSA accounts with check/debit capability
We do not accept insurance as a direct form of payment, but you may request reimbursement from your insurance company on your own. You will be given a receipt that you may submit (see next question) to your insurance company for reimbursement. The receipt will include codes known as "procedure codes" and "diagnostic codes", which are required by insurance companies for reimbursement. Your insurance company will then reimburse you directly based on your plan coverage. Most insurance companies reimburse between 60%-90%, but it varies, so please be sure you understand your individual plan.
After insurance reimbursement, a therapy session usually costs about as much as a good meal out, but again this varies, so please be sure you understand your individual plan.

NOTE: Due to federal law, counseling services provided by Advantia Mental Wellness therapists may not be submitted to Medicare or Medicaid for reimbursement.
How do I submit a bill to my insurance company?
Here are some general guidelines for submitting a bill (also known as "filing a claim") with your insurance company.
Once you schedule your first appointment, you’ll be given access to the Patient Portal where you can retrieve copies of your bills that may be submitted to insurance for reimbursement based on your coverage.
- Understand your coverage. Call your insurance company and ask them to explain your coverage, their process, and what documentation is needed to file a mental health claim. The process varies, and the remaining steps explain what most companies will require. Your Benefits Summary document should include instructions on how to file a claim, along with copies of claim forms or details on how to obtain them (such as downloading them online). The back of your insurance card will likely have a toll free telephone number for member services that you can call for assistance.
- Don't put it off. Many insurance plans limit the length of time after receiving services that you can file a claim. Some time limits are as little as 30 days after your appointment.
- Keep your receipt. You will need the receipt from your therapist's office. Make sure it includes your name, the type of visit, and a diagnostic code. Also make sure your therapist’s name, address, telephone number, and provider number are clearly legible on any documentation you submit to your insurance company.
- Keep copies. Be sure to keep a copy of everything you submit and record the date you mailed the claim. If you speak to anyone at the insurance company about the claim, keep detailed notes, including names, dates, and times.
- Submit your claim. Your insurance company may offer the ability to submit/file a claim electronically from their website, otherwise you will need to send the paper claim form and any receipts through the mail. Be sure to follow your insurance company's instructions for claim submission.
After submitting, your insurance company will send you an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) form detailing their payment to you. Compare the EOB to your copy of the submitted claim to confirm you have been covered as expected for the visit, and make sure you understand the breakdown of how the claim was paid.
Can I pay for therapy using my Health Savings Account (HSA)?
Yes, you can use your HSA card to pay for therapy appointments. Your health savings account works like an IRA for medical bills. You deposit money tax-free, it earns interest tax-free, and your withdrawals are tax-free as long as they're for qualified medical expenses. Anything that the IRS identifies as a deductible health-care expense in Publication 502 qualifies as tax-free HSA spending.

How many sessions will I need before I see improvement?
There is no average number of sessions. Some people feel better after an initial consultation and receiving validation. You will likely see improvement after the first session and begin to understand that there are other ways to solve your problems.
Many people stay in therapy because they find it to be beneficial, and it becomes a part of their life. The number of sessions you attend is self-determining, and it's something you decide with your therapist.
How often will I need a session?
As often as needed, and this is something to discuss with your therapist. Many people visit once a week, but it could be less frequently or more frequently depending on your needs.
Can I do my appointment by phone?
Yes, you can do your appointment by phone after you and your therapist have established a relationship. We prefer face-to-face consultations, but we are happy to accommodate appointments by phone when needed.

I have a security clearance. Will counseling impact my clearance?
We can't answer that yes or no, but it usually doesn't impact a security clearance. If this is a concern, you should double-check with your employer before beginning counseling.
I am very concerned about anonymity. How private is counseling?
Counseling is extremely private. We follow all counseling and privacy guidelines set forth by the following organizations and regulations:
